Langham, Bembridge
Langham arrived at Bembridge in 1922, with her naming ceremony taking place that October. A self-righting Watson class lifeboat, she was built by JS White and Co and funded by the legacy of TG Langham of London.
To house her at Bembridge, a concrete pier – almost 230 metres in length – needed to be constructed. 1922 was a year of great change for the station.
Langham carried out 61 launches at Bembridge and saved 62 lives. She later joined the RNLI’s relief fleet where she saved a further 38 lives at sea. She was replaced at Bembridge Lifeboat Station by Jesse Lumb.
Langham was sold out of service in 1950. Now owned by the Isle of Wight Historic Lifeboat Trust, you can see her beside the entrance to Arreton Barns, Isle of Wight.
