RNLI and the Black Swimming Association partnership

The RNLI and the Black Swimming Association (BSA) have joined forces with the shared goal of reducing drownings by influencing improved safety on and near the water.

By working together we hope to reach as many people as possible of African, Caribbean and Asian heritage in the UK and Ireland, with vital water safety messaging, which has been proven to save lives. These communities are known to be particularly at risk of accidental drownings.

The RNLI is proud to share almost 200 years of lifesaving experience with like-minded partners such as the BSA, with the aim of saving every one we can, together.

Working together

This summer, the BSA visited the RNLI Support Centre in Poole, giving both organisations a chance to learn about each other’s work in preparation for this brand new partnership. Members of the RNLI and BSA entered the survival pool, tackling activities such as throw bag training and floating exercises. Watch our video to find out more:

‘Joining forces’

RNLI Head of Water Safety, Gareth Morrison says: ‘The RNLI’s vision is to save every one, and an essential part of this is ensuring effective water safety messaging and education in the community. By joining forces with the Black Swimming Association, the combined reach and influence of our organisations will far exceed anything either could do alone.

‘We are extremely proud to be working with the BSA and doing all we can to reduce drowning in the African, Caribbean and Asian communities in the UK and Ireland.’
