Squaremen donate to Macduff RNLI

The volunteer crew at RNLI Macduff welcomed Calum Mackinnon from Ye Corporation Of Squaremen to the station on Thursday night.

Mr Mackinnon presented the crew with a cheque for £200, which had, been raised by Buchan Shed No4 of Ye Corporation of Squaremen.

Mr Mackinnon who lives in Turriff but is originally from Egol on Skye where his family are fishermen, has been a supporter of the RNLI for many years, said

‘I lost my twin brothers in an accident at sea in 1985 when they were only 18, they were helping a neighbour who also perished

‘The local Lifeboat at Mallaig pulled out all the stops to locate the bodies and return them to the family, one of my brothers was lost for over a month and they organised searches with local boats and with people scouring the coastline until he was found.

‘Since then the village of Elgol and my family have been raising funds for the RNLI in recognition of the hard and fearless work they do in all weathers 365 days a year, often at the drop of a hat when the pagers go off.’

He continued,

‘All the Money raised by The Squaremen every year goes to local charities in the North East, at our AGM this year each of the 17 charities received £200.

‘It was my pleasure to Nominate the RNLI at Macduff to receive a donation in recognition of the sterling work they do for the community and the seafaring community that use our coastline for work and leisure.’

Macduff Coxswain Chassey Findlay said,

‘We are grateful for the donation from Calum on behalf of Ye Corporation Of Squaremen.

‘We have recently enrolled some new trainee crewmembers and this donation will be used to help fund their training over the next 12 months.’
