Leverburgh RNLI rescue grounded yacht

Lifeboats News Release

Leverburgh RNLI Lifeboat were paged at 1156 hours today following a request for assistance from a grounded yacht, off the Isle of Skye.

The 14m vessel had 6 persons on board and had grounded on Sgeir Graidach, off north-west Skye.

On arrival at the scene, the volunteer crew from Leverburgh RNLI found that the casualty vessel had floated on the rising tide but was suffering from engine and steering failure.

A tow line was established and the vessel was taken under tow to meet the Stornoway Lifeboat. The two lifeboats met off the Shiant islands and the volunteer crew from Stornoway then took over the tow and brought the vessel to the safety of Stornoway Harbour.

Leverburgh RNLI Lifeboat was back at the station, refuelled and ready for service again by 1700 hours.
