‘Glamour, Glitz and Bubbles’ event raises £30,500 for Lifeboats in NE Scotland
Some 250 charity-minded local ladies gathered for the annual ‘Glamour, Glitz and Bubbles’ Lifeboat fundraiser on Saturday 3 March at the Douglas Hotel, Aberdeen – and raised a whopping £30,500 to support lifeboat stations in Buckie, Macduff and Aberdeen.
The event is organised by prolific local fundraiser Audrey Wood with sponsorship support from Wood PLC, Nicol of Skene, Apache North Sea, Aberness Care and Cala Homes.
Audrey Wood says: “After the tragedy of Flight 85N in 2009, when 16 men including my son, Stuart, were lost when their helicopter crashed on its way home from the Miller platform, I was astonished to discover that the crew on the lifeboats who went out to search were all volunteers. Soon afterwards, I vowed to dedicate my energy to raising funds to support the local crews.”
The £30,500 raised this year brings the total over the event’s seven year history to over £192,000.

Every year, she stages a sparkling sell-out event which makes people aware of the lifesaving work our volunteer crews do – and that none of this work could happen were it not for the generosity of members of the public.
