Alderney Branch of the RNLI receives official Royal Visit from The Duke of Kent
Alderney RNLI received an official visit on Wednesday 17 October 2018 from His Royal Highness The Duke of Kent.
The Duke, who is President of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), made a visited Braye Harbour where he greeted and presented awards to members of the Alderney RNLI Lifeboat Crew and Ladies Guild.
On arrival at Braye Harbour, His Royal Highness was introduced to members of the Alderney lifeboat crew, he was then given a guided tour of the Trent class all-weather lifeboat Roy Barker I before presenting several awards in the Alderney Sailing Club.
At the presentation, The Duke awarded former crew member Billy Watt with thanks inscribed on Vellum in recognition for his long service to the RNLI. Three certificates of excellence were also presented to members of the Alderney Ladies Guild, Marjory Bunn, Mavis Stretton and Terry Skerritt for 15 years of dedication to fund raising for the RNLI.
On receipt of his award Billy Watt said “It was a great honour to receive this award from The Duke of Kent for my service to the Alderney Lifeboat. When I retired earlier this year I was second Coxswain and had served on the crew in various roles for the past 17 years.”
The Duke also visited the Alderney Harbour Office, Lifeboat station and the Alderney RNLI gift shop.
