Lifeboats launch to medical emergency on board yacht near Inchmarnock

At 2.47pm on Monday 22 October 2018, Troon all-weather lifeboat was tasked by Belfast Coastguard to assist Largs lifeboat and Arran lifeboat after reports of a crew member experiencing chest pain aboard a yacht 1 mile south of Inchmarnock, on the west side of Bute.

The Coastguard Search and Rescue helicopter, Rescue 199 and the Rothesay Coastguard Rescue Teams were also tasked.

The volunteer crew launched the Trent class all-weather lifeboat RNLB Jim Moffat and made their way to the scene.

While on route Largs lifeboat and Rescue 199 arrived on scene. Two crew members from Largs lifeboat were put aboard the yacht and began an initial Casualty Care assessment.

Due to the weather conditions, which made a helicopter winch too dangerous, Largs lifeboat crew transferred the casualty from the yacht to the nearby beach where they were handed over to crew of the Coastguard helicopter and airlifted to hospital.

After being assisted by Arran lifeboat, Largs lifeboat took the yacht with three remaining crew members aboard under tow. Tighnabruaich lifeboat then launched and took over the tow from Largs lifeboat.

With the casualty on route to hospital and the yacht under tow, Troon lifeboat was released by Belfast Coastguard and was able to return to station where it was refuelled and made 'Ready for Service' with the assistance of the shore crew.
