Amble inshore lifeboat launches to assist kayakers
Following a request for assistance at 5.20pm on 3 April from Humber Coastguard, Amble inshore lifeboat Mildred Holcroft launched to assist the occupants of two kayaks which had capsized on the River Coquet.
A passerby had contacted the emergency services on seeing people who seemed to be struggling when their craft capsized.
The lifeboat proceeded to the area near the weir along the Warkworth road and on ensuring that the kayakers were safe, returned to station at 6.20pm and made ready again for service.
Lifeboat helmsman Robert Henderson commented that: 'Kayakers frequently exercise their capsize and recovery procedures as a safety precaution. The passerby must have thought that they may need help but that should never put people off from contacting help.'
