Man rescued by RNLI Morecambe after being cut off by tide

Morecambe’s RNLI were called to service today (1.55pm 13 February 2020) after receiving a report of a man cut off by the tide.

Deputy Launch Authority Justin Mawtus authorised the volunteer crew to make to the area under the helm of Trevor McMeeking for the inshore lifeboat and hovercraft under the command of Daniel Kirk.

Upon arrival of the inshore RNLI lifeboat the crew made to the lone male who was cut off by the tide and waited with him until the arrival of the hovercraft. The male was safely transferred to the hovercraft who then in turn made back to the shore. He was then left him in the safety of HM Coastguard.

Justin Mawtus RNLI Deputy Launch Authority said:

“The bay has fast incoming tides which are a danger in themselves. Anyone who does venture out on the bay need to be aware of the tide times and stick close to the shore”.
