Wexford RNLI rescue two people after 37ft boat strikes sandbank
Wexford RNLI launched at 9am today (Monday 13 July) to rescue two men whose 37ft motor boat got stuck on a sandbank in Wexford Harbour.
Weather conditions were good with some poor visibility in rain with a south westerly Force 3 wind.
The visiting boat had raised the alarm with the Irish Coast Guard, who then advised on the wearing of masks when being rescued by the lifeboat.
The volunteer crew were Helm Sinead Casey, Damien Foley and Marchin Masimiuk who also wear extra PPE during the current pandemic.
On arrival, the lifeboat crew assessed the situation and observed that the two men were safe and well. The crew then worked with them to establish a tow and release from the vessel from sandbank. One of the crew members went onboard the vessel to assist with this.
Speaking following the call out, Wexford RNLI Helm Sinead Casey said: ‘The two men were visitors to Wexford Harbour and were very grateful for the assistance. We would like to wish them well.
'As the summer continues, we would remind everyone regardless of their activity to always respect the water. Always wear a lifejacket, always have a means for calling for help and always check the weather forecast and tide times. Should you get into difficulty, call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coast Guard.'
