D-Class lifeboat involved in the rescue

Solent Coastguard received a call from a concerned member of the public reporting two walkers and their dog that were cut off by a rapidly rising spring tide off the beach at West Wittering. The coastguard requested we launch to go to their assistance and the D-Class lifeboat was launched at 16:39 and was soon on scene. They found the two people and their dog in the gathering dusk, as they were guided by one of them displaying a light. The rapidly rising tide had already reached their feet and it would not have been long before they would have been in serious trouble. All three were taken aboard the lifeboat and medically checked for hypothermia and shock. As they were all fine they were taken to the Wittering Beach and handed into the care of the Selsey Coastguards. The lifeboat returned to the station and was made ready for further service.
