This summer many people who managed to get out as local lockdown was lifted had the chance to enjoy the sunflowers at Rhossili. The field was recently purchased by local man Rob Morgan. The field proved popular and help raise thousands of pounds for the National Trust as visitors used their car park. The profit from the entry fee and sea food hut was shared between local charities including the RNLI.

Rob said ‘I’m a keen sea angler and spend a lot of time on the coast. This year I got to spend a lot of time on the Dee estuary and saw the amazing work the volunteers do. It’s an honour to help out in any way I can.’

Lifeboat Coxswain Martin Double said ‘We as a charity have found 2020 almost impossible to fund raise in. We’re very grateful to Rob for his donation of £700 to the charity in these difficult times. This year has been one of the busiest for our volunteer crews but we need more donations. One way we’re fundraising this year is with a virtual fish supper. We’re asking families and friends to meet online, enjoy a fish supper via Zoom or FaceTime, share some pics online and make a donation to the RNLI. There’s details on our Facebook page’.

The RNLI charity saves lives at sea. Its volunteers provide a 24-hour search and rescue service around the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland coasts. The RNLI operates 238 lifeboat stations in the UK and Ireland and more than 240 lifeguard units on beaches around the UK and Channel Islands. The RNLI is independent of Coastguard and government and depends on voluntary donations and legacies to maintain its rescue service. Since the RNLI was founded in 1824, its lifeboat crews and lifeguards have saved over 142,700 lives.
