Local community group raise £3000 for RNLI Mablethorpe

The presentation took place outside RNLI Mablethorpe’s station, adhering to strict social distancing regulations and was attended by some of the crew members and three members of the Community Charity’s committee members.

The Anderby Creek Community Charity have raised over £40,000 for the RNLI in Mablethorpe since it was established over 10 years ago. These funds have been raised with the support of Springs Estates, who grant the group permission to use their grounds to hold table top sales, fundays and other outdoor events, and also The Creek Tavern who host weekly Bingo evenings on Wednesdays and the annual ‘Gig on the Green’ which unfortunately also had to be cancelled this year. The annual presentation of funds raised is usually one of their main events.

As COVID struck the nation businesses and holiday parks were forced to close meaning that the group were unable to hold their usual fundraising activities. However, when lockdown lifted the group missed local community interaction and began holding table top sales in the Creek Tavern car park. Local residents also organised cake sales and other local events in their own gardens and driveways, but always following the Government’s COVID safety guidelines.

As with any charity the RNLI and Mablethorpe Lifeboat are dependant on the efforts of those who tirelessly work to support the institution and its volunteer crews, not only the volunteer fundraisers within the organisation but those who support the RNLI from outside.

Mark Chambers, Deputy Launching Authority at RNLI Mablethorpe said: ‘We are extremely grateful to the Anderby Creek Community Charity for their very generous donations resulting from the hard work they put into their fundraising activities on our behalf. Fundraising efforts such as this demonstrate the commitment to ourselves that the local community has, in particular during this very difficult year. The kindness and generosity of our fundraisers goes towards training and equipping our crew to enable us to continue our mission to save lives at sea.’

Gail Page, Chair of the Anderby Creek Community Charity, added: ‘We are all very passionate about the work of the RNLI given where we live on the coast when there are several incidents, particularly during the summer, when the RNLI are called upon to help holiday makers who get into trouble in the local waters. They are our first point of call and we get great pleasure from raising funds to help them continue their wonderful work in the community.

'To us it is vitally important that we support our local RNLI crew, as we know just how valuable they are to us and to those who come to stay here. As the RNLI is not Government funded every penny we can raise to support them in their valuable work is time well spent.’
