Seven-year-old Scarlett becomes an RNLI Mayday lifesaver
Seven-year-old Scarlett McMath Crozier, a P3 pupil in Kilkeel Primary School, has been recognised by the RNLI as a Mayday Lifesaver for raising £450 to help save lives at sea..
During the month of May, Scarlett together with her mother walked seven miles collecting litter on seven local Kilkeel beaches as she answered the RNLI Mayday Lifesaver challenge.
In a letter, Robert Gaunt, volunteer helm at Scarborough RNLI, described Scarlett as a Mayday hero and said the money raised will help ensure that RNLI crews will have the kit and training needed to answer emergency calls and went on to say, ‘we’re proud to have you alongside our crew.’
A special medal was enclosed with the letter as a small token of appreciation.
Speaking afterwards, John Fisher, Kilkeel RNLI Lifeboat Operations Manager said: ‘We thank Scarlett for her efforts over seven days, not only helping the RNLI but also in being environmentally aware in cleaning up our local beaches. Scarlett continues the long tradition of the Mourne community supporting the RNLI.’
