Local community group raise £5000 for RNLI Mablethorpe

The presentation took place at The Creek Tavern in Anderby Creek as part of their end of season celebrations and was attended by RNLI volunteer crew members and members of the Community group.

The Anderby Creek Community Charity has raised over £80,000 for the RNLI in Mablethorpe since it was established over 20 years ago. These funds have been raised with the support of Springs Estates, who grant the group permission to use their grounds to hold table top sales, fun days and other outdoor events, and also The Creek Tavern who host weekly Bingo evenings on Wednesdays and who support all the group’s fundraising activities. The annual presentation of funds to RNLI Mablethorpe is usually one of their main events.

As restrictions began to be eased the group were able to start up some of their usual fundraising activities, whilst maintaining COVID-19 government safety regulations. These included a fund day and dog show, table top sales, regular Bingo evenings and cake stalls, with tombolas and raffles also helping to raise funds.

As with any charity the RNLI and Mablethorpe Lifeboat are dependent on the efforts of those who tirelessly work to support the institution and its volunteer crews, not only the volunteer fundraisers within the organisation but those who support the RNLI from outside.

Mark Chambers, Deputy Launching Authority at RNLI Mablethorpe said: ‘We are extremely grateful to the Anderby Creek Community Charity for their very generous donations resulting from the hard work they put into their fundraising activities on our behalf. Fundraising efforts such as this demonstrate the commitment to ourselves that the local community has, in particular during these very difficult years. The kindness and generosity of our fundraisers goes towards training and equipping our crew to enable us to continue our mission to save lives at sea.’

Gail Gammond, Chair of the Anderby Creek Community Charity, added: ‘We are all very passionate about the work of the RNLI given where we live on the coast when there are several incidents, particularly during the summer, when the RNLI are called upon to help holiday makers who get into trouble in the local waters. They are our first point of call and we get great pleasure from raising funds to help them continue their wonderful work in the community. To us it is vitally important that we support our local RNLI crew, as we know just how valuable they are to us and to those who come to stay here. As the RNLI is not Government funded every penny we can raise to support them in their valuable work is time well spent.’

The £80,000 raised in 20 years is absolutely incredible and we can’t thank them enough for their unwavering support. We genuinely could not continue doing what we do without lifesavers like the Anderby Creek Community Group by our side.’
