Port Isaac RNLI open new shop in the harbour
Visitors to Port Isaac will be able to call into the newly opened RNLI shop in the harbour. The shop which opened by RNLI volunteers at the beginning of April has already had a busy couple of weeks and the charity’s volunteers are bracing themselves for a busy Easter weekend.
Andy Bramwell, RNLI community Manager says;
‘RNLI shops generate significant funds for the charity, and we’re delighted to have been able to get the shop up and running before the Easter holidays.
Port Isaac is a very popular destination for visitor to the area, and previously we had had great success with selling souvenirs and Christmas cards outside the lifeboat station. So having a dedicated shop space that can operate in all weathers, throughout the year, stocking a wide range of unique souvenirs and gifts, as well as useful items for your day on the beach, is fantastic news for Port Isaac RNLI. All profits help to the RNLI to save lives at sea.
A huge thanks to the whole team at Port Isaac RNLI for chipping in to get the doors open and to the volunteers who have committed their time to running it.’
The RNLI has over 170 RNLI shops around the coast and inland, all of which are still run by dedicated volunteers. They attract many visitors throughout the year and stock an excellent range of unique souvenirs and gifts.
RNLI shops started out as simple cake stalls run by volunteers to raise money for their local lifeboat station.
These stalls started selling commemorative RNLI products in around 1920 and quickly moved on to selling souvenirs and Christmas cards with all profits helping save lives at sea
