The pagers sounded at 2.34pm on Wednesday 3rd August and the volunteer crew of ILB
Craig Steadman assembled at the boathouse having been tasked by HM Coastguard to launch to three people in the water near ‘Trwyn y Gwaith’
In choppy seas and excellent visibility, ILB Craig Steadman and her crew launched into Barmouth Harbour and made their way up the channel, spotting three people in the water so directed them to make their way to the safety of the beach. Those in the water pointed the ILB crew towards an unaccounted for casualty, further out to sea.
The volunteer crew located the casualty quarter of a mile further out to sea on a fast outgoing tide. The casualty, a young girl, who despite her serious predicament had remained calm and was floating on her back with waves breaking over her. The crew took her onboard the lifeboat where she made reference to her sister being in the water too.
At 2.47pm ALB Ella Larsen and her crew were paged to assist in the search for the casualty’s sister. On arriving at the shoreline ALB
Ella Larsen was stood down as HM coastguard notified them that the sister was with the parents who had safely made their way to the shore, all casualties were therefore accounted for.
The volunteer crew of ILB Craig Steadman took the casualty back to the boathouse where she received treatment from the lifeboat crew who then handed her over to a paramedic onboard SAR helicopter 937 who had come to join the search.
Both boats were washed down and readied for service.
