RNLI Borth rescue dog at Aberwennol Bay.
On Sunday 7th August at 3pm the Borth RNLI lifeboat was asked by HM Coastguard to assist a man and his dog in Aberwennol Bay.
Members of the public reported concerns for a dog owner who was in the process of trying rescue his dog from the sea close to shore in Aberwennol bay. HM Coastguard tasked Borth lifeboat to assist. When the lifeboat arrived on scene they were alerted to the location of the casualties by other members of the public and made best speed to their location, which was now on the shore. The crew landed the lifeboat on the shore with the helm sending two crew members directly to the casualty's location to assess the incident. They discovered that the dog had in fact fallen from the cliff path above the beach. After a quick assessment of the dog, it was clear to see that it had limited movement in it's hind quarters and was in some pain.
Given the location and the difficulty posed in getting a vehicle close to transport the dog the crew decided the best course of action would be to place the dog in their ambulance pouch and transport it and the owner back to the lifeboat station in the lifeboat.
Before leaving the scene, the crew arranged to meet the Borth Coastguard Rescue Team on shore also asking them to coordinate with the local out of hours Vet.
Once back at the lifeboat station the crew transferred the dog to the owner's car so he could be taken to the vet to receive medical attention for a suspected broken Femur.
Crew - Simon T (Helm), Martyn, Rhys and Ian. This was Simon's first shout after he had recently qualified as a helm.
