Thousands of people attended the event, which was part of Littlehampton Harbour’s Waterfront Festival.

The public were able to find out more about their local lifeboat station, tour the boathouse and crew room, and get a closer look at the lifeboat station’s two lifeboats – Renee Sherman and Ray of Hope. Littlehampton RNLI’s volunteer crew – who are on call 24/7 to help save lives at sea – were also on hand to answer any questions.

The volunteer crew took to the water to conduct an exciting search and rescue demonstration and to welcome special guests, Shoreham RNLI, into Littlehampton Harbour.

Meanwhile, Littlehampton RNLI’s fundraising, shop, water safety and visits volunteers hosted a number of fun activities throughout the day, including a scavenger hunt, crew kit competition and ‘cover the flag’ challenge.

Nick White, Littlehampton RNLI’s Lifeboat Operations Manager, said: ‘Thank you to everyone who attended our Open Day. After three years away, it was great to be able to meet so many people and thank them for their support. Without them, our work providing a 24-hour search and rescue service for those who require help in local waters would not be possible.’
