The Celtic Sea Rowers at Criccieth lifeboat station

The “criccieth2criccieth 700” challenge, involves a 700 miles cycle route around Wales and will visit all 30 RNLI stations starting on the 5 September in Criccieth, following a clockwise route and finishing back in Criccieth, on the 18 September 2022.

Speaking to the RNLI, Ian Williamson, on behalf of the team which includes includes Bob Chamberlain, Richard and Jill Gloster, Mike James, Steve and Isobel Weake, said “Although as a rowing section, I believe that we have never needed to call upon the emergency services of the dedicated RNLI, it is very reassuring to know that there are people prepared to put their lives on the line to save others when required – 24 hours a day 365 days per year.

Our challenge is to cycle 700 miles around Wales, which will involve over 45 000 feet of ascent and has required many hours and miles of training in preparation. Taking into account our teams average age is in excess of 65 years old, this will be a serious undertaking.

Please donate to this worthwhile cause, you never know when you, a family member, friend or total stranger will need the life dependant services of the RNLI.”
