Bude RNLI Lifeboat Day 2019

Bude RNLI Lifeboat Weekend is a fabulous, fun filled weekend that helps to raise vital funds to support the crucial work of the RNLI – the job of saving lives at Sea. The weekend is a much-anticipated annual event which is enjoyed by locals and visitors alike. Whether you love a pasty, a quiz, live music, dancing or fireworks, there is something for everyone.

Saturday begins with local charities hosting their own stalls at the Castle Green and Bude Metric Brass Band will be performing. You might even be lucky with the Saturday raffle as there are some amazing prizes to be won. At the end of the evening there will be a quiz hosted by the RNLI quiz masters.

On Sunday you can enjoy live shanty singing at the Castle Green and take part in our Songs of Praise at Barkhouse Green with Bude Town Band leading the singing. If you have children, bring them along to the children’s disco – they can have fun while the adults relax at the bar! Later that evening Wadebridge Male Voice Choir and Cousin Jack will be entertaining everyone.

Bank Holiday Monday is packed with events. At Summerleaze Beach you can spend the day enjoying tours of the Lifeboat Station, watching a demo of a search and rescue, keeping the children occupied with face painting or a treasure hunt on the beach. There will be a great selection of stalls and games on the Castle Green as well as live music, singing and dancing and, if you’re lucky, you might get to see the Zumba dance moves of Liam Sharpe, our Operations Manager, who has been practicing in readiness for the day! Ducks for the duck race on the canal are on sale now and other activities include a Lobster draw, another amazing raffle, a craft fair, monster trucks and moving information about the Penlee Lifeboat Disaster. If you love the water, then the rowing race or canoe polo is your chance to show off your skills.

There will also be a great selection of hot food to boost you along with a hog roast and BBQ, cream teas and pasties, as well as a cash bar.

The event ends with a spectacular firework display in memory of a wonderful friend and colleague from the RNLI. As Robin Bale says, ‘May his spirit light up the sky.’

Sue Kershaw, Vice chair fundraising at Bude RNLI says;

‘A great deal of hard work and planning has gone into the weekend. We’re excited to be back in Bude with a bang and looking forward to seeing familiar faces along with new. A huge thanks goes to all our sponsors of the various events over the weekend and the businesses and individuals who have donated wonderful prizes. We could not do this without you.
