A busy bank holiday Monday afternoon for the RNLI in Barmouth

SHOUT ONE

The pager sounded at 4.29pm to launch ILB Craig Steadman into calm seas, with excellent visibility, to a report of a dinghy with three people on board drifting three miles west of the green buoy. On reaching the location a paddle boarder had pulled the casualties closer to the shore. The ILB and her volunteer crew took three casualties onboard and returned them to the coastguard rescue team on the shoreline. ILB Craig Steadman and her volunteer crew returned to the boathouse and was refuelled and readied for service.

SHOUT TWO

The crew were paged at 6.11pm to reports of three unmanned inflatables in the water opposite the housing estate blowing out to sea. With good visibility and a slight swell the volunteer crew launched ILB Craig Steadman made their way to the location. The crew retrieved the inflatables and were tasked to check the area between the inflatables and the shore for persons in the water and searched the area between Caerddaniel and the boathouse for persons in the water. No-one was found and it was believed the inflatables had blown out on the tide and winds.

Crew Member Daryl James said: ‘It’s great to see so many people enjoying the beaches this year but it is important to remember that inflatables are not suitable for use at the beach. They can be very easily swept out to sea on the wind or tide’
