RNLI Barmouth launch to reports of paddleboarders in difficultly
Pagers sounded at 3.27pm and inshore lifeboat (ILB) Craig Steadman was tasked by HM Coastguard to launch to Benar beach to reports of three people on a paddle board in difficulties.
Launching with excellent visibility and calm seas the volunteer crew made their way to the location and found 2 children in wetsuits and one adult fishing from their paddle board, they were happy and said they didn’t require any assistance. However due to the wind conditions the crew decided to take them back to the shore
ILB Craig Steadman and her crew them returned to the boathouse and was refuelled and readied for service
Helm Daryl James said: ‘Paddle boarding is a very popular activity in Barmouth. The RNLI advises that you avoid offshore winds as they can quickly blow your paddle board out to sea
We also advise that you should wear a suitable flotation device such as a buoyancy aid. Not only will it keep you afloat, but it will also help give you time to recover should you fall in –and chances are you will.
