Alderney RNLI lifeboat crew receive valuable training at Poole
Three members of Alderney RNLI's volunteer lifeboat crew recently attended the RNLI College in Poole for essential training.
Coxswain Declan Gaudion and volunteer crew members Rhys Jenkins and Saul Woodruff spent five days at the RNLI College at the end of January to complete the Approved Engine Course (AEC).
Declan Gaudion said: ' The course is fundamental in equipping crew members with the knowledge and skills to provide Alderney’s all-weather Trent class lifeboat
Roy Barker I with the continued servicing and maintenance required to operate an efficient lifeboat service.'
Lifeboat Volunteer Rhys Jenkins said 'With the RNLI College being closed for some time due to COVID restrictions it was good to finally get over to complete the Approved Engine Course (AEC). The course tutors are extremely knowledgeable and the course is well laid out with a good mix of theoretical and practical sessions. The facilities at the College are first class, which all makes for a very thorough and enjoyable course.'
New recruits Adam Barnes, Rhys Jenkins and Sean Maloy will also be attending RNLI College later this month for their initial introductory lifeboat training which will equip them with the skills required to save lives at sea. This training is rolled out nationwide to all new volunteer lifeboat crew members.

The RNLI charity saves lives at sea. Its volunteers provide a 24-hour search and rescue service around the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland coasts. The RNLI operates 238 lifeboat stations in the UK and Ireland and more than 240 lifeguard units on beaches around the UK and Channel Islands. The RNLI is independent of Coastguard and government and depends on voluntary donations and legacies to maintain its rescue service. Since the RNLI was founded in 1824, its lifeboat crews and lifeguards have saved over 142,700 lives.
