St Mary's RNLI provide medical help for French trawler

Lifeboats News Release

St. Mary's lifeboat with it's volunteer crew was tasked at 5.10pm on the 6 July 2022 to go to the aid of a French trawler 25 nautical miles west of the islands.

The fishing vessel had a crew person onboard that required urgent medical attention. At the same time a Coastguard helicopter from Newquay in Cornwall was launched.
After arriving at the scene, the lifeboat placed two crew members onboard the French trawler who were trained in casualty care. Their assessment was that the casualty would have to be airlifted off as he was unable to bear any weight on an injured leg. The two lifeboat crew members then assisted the winch paramedic and the injured fisherman was flown to the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro for further treatment.
Once the two crew members were back onboard, the lifeboat returned to St. Mary's Harbour where she was refuelled, once more ready for service.
