Blyth RNLI comes to the aid of a stricken vessel
On 19 March 2022 at 7.41pm Blyth RNLI volunteer crew were paged by UK Coastguard to launch their Atlantic 85
With four volunteer crew on board the Atlantic 85 was quickly launched and headed south towards St Mary's Lighthouse.
A vessel had been undertaking a tow another unmanned vessel from Amble to the River Tyne for restoration. The tow had parted and caused the unmanned vessel to start drifting towards to the rocks.
Initially Cullercoats RNLI had been paged to provide assistance but then suffered mechanical issues and requested that Blyth RNLI provide assistance.
Arriving on scene Blyth RNLI made contact with Cullercoats RNLI and liaised with UK Coastguard and it was agreed that the stricken vessel be towed back to the Port of Blyth.
Cullercoats RNLI returned to their boathouse and mechanical work quickly repaired the issue they had and they were ready for service.
Meanwhile Blyth RNLI placed one volunteer crew member onboard the stricken vessel so a tow could be established.
In agreement with the Port of Blyth the vessel was successfully towed to Dun Cow Quay within the Port of Blyth.
The vessel was tied up alongside with the assistance of the local Blyth Coastguard team.
Blyth RNLI Atlantic 85 returned to station and was made ready for service.
