RNLI on the Isle of Man launches search for governance role on island

As the RNLI charity approaches its bicentenary, a recruitment drive has been launched to recruit a Responsible Person and Registered Agent and deputy.

As a registered foreign company, the RNLI requires this dedicated role to ensure that the RNLI complies with the requirements set out in Isle of Man legislation.

This is an important role for the RNLI – Isle of Man, providing valuable assistance to the Company Secretarial Team and Finance Team, as well as local and regional management on the Isle of Man. New legislation has meant, as a foreign charity, the RNLI also had to appoint a person resident in the Island as the ‘Responsible Person’ if none of the charity trustees were ordinarily resident there.

By joining the RNLI, the successful candidate, who will resident on island, will be helping to ensure our skilled and brave lifeboat volunteers sustain a world-class search and rescue service.

The Responsible Person and Registered Agent’s responsibilities will include ensuring that adequate records and documentation are kept for RNLI activity on the island, working in partnership with the Company Secretary. There will be a requirement to accept service of documents and official notices served on the RNLI in relation to activities on the island.

Working with the Company Secretary, the successful candidate will give the information needed for filings and submissions to the Attorney General and the Companies Registry, retaining copies of all required documentation and act as an initial point of contact on the island with the Attorney General’s Office.

There role will see the new volunteer working with the RNLI Legal Team, Finance Team and Company Secretary, ensuring all statutory returns are completed in a timely and accurate manner.

The successful candidate will have experience of legal and regulatory compliance for a charity or not-for-profit organisation, experience of keeping or overseeing company/branch accounts, Experience in charity or not-for-profit sector administration is desirable and the successful applicant will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and an understanding of volunteering.

The time commitment for this role will be approximately 5-10 hours per year and attendance at twice yearly meetings with the Company Secretary and Head of Financial Governance via video link will be required. The term of office for this role is three years and a maximum of three consecutive terms may be served.
