Clovelly gets ready to celebrate with festive light display
The residents of Clovelly are gearing up for their annual Christmas lights extravaganza in aid of the RNLI — and this year it looks set to be better than ever before.
In the picturesque fishing village of Clovelly, crowds are a common sight. But the busiest day of the year by far is the Christmas lights switch-on, when the 14th-century harbour and cobbled street are illuminated to usher in the festive season.
On 4 December 2022 the village will be hosting an array of Christmas activities, beginning at 4pm with a brass band procession down the street. There will be stops along the way for Christmas carols, before a crowd gathers in the harbour for a carol service and performance from Woolsery School Choir. Afterwards, a switch will be flicked, illuminating the village with thousands of sparkling bulbs as an impressive fireworks display lights up the night sky.
Festive refreshments such as hog roast and grog will be available at the harbour and Lifeboat Station throughout, as well as food and drink at the New Inn and Red Lion Hotel. There will even be a visit from Father Christmas himself.
The Christmas lights event is organised by volunteers at Clovelly Lifeboat Station to raise money for the RNLI. In lieu of the usual entrance fee to the village, visitors are asked to make a donation of £10 per vehicle to the charity. The crew would also like to thank Mimick Signs of Bideford and the Donkey Shoe Shop of Clovelly for their generous support.
