Selsey lifeboat week returned after a two year break due to the pandemic
The week started on Sunday with the service in the boathouse which attracted a good crowd with those that arrived early able to see the D class lifeboat launched on service to a medical incident.
The Monday evening was the station open night where members of the public could meet the crew and go aboard the lifeboats. A lovely evening on the Tuesday saw a great attendance for the walking treasure hunt. Wednesday saw the lifeboat crew enter a team in the quiz night at the Seal pub although they did get the prize but didn’t come last.
Thursday night was the race night at the Victory club which as usual was well attended with crew member Sam having an extremely good winning night. Friday night saw a new event for the week local firm Fluid Adventures supplied canoes and kayaks for races from anybody that donated to the RNLI which proved a success especially with the flat calm sea state. The Selsey Shanty sang shanties to finish the evening off. Unfortunately, the Fireworks and the dog show were cancelled due to the extreme heat. As usual Shayler’s funfair was open on the green Friday to Sunday
Sunday, launch day and the Green was full of stalls and exhibits. The raft race was won by the lifeboat entry. The lovely sunny hot weather bought a good crowd to the beach who were treated to a demonstration by both Selsey lifeboats and the visiting Hayling Island 85 class lifeboat. Selsey RNLI would like to thank all those that helped make the week a success and raise the sum of £11,000. We look forward to seeing you next year launch day is 6 August.
