Peterhead RNLI launched to assist a drifting 35-foot yacht
RNLI Peterhead's Tamar class lifeboat, The Misses Robertson of Kintail, launched on Tuesday 6 September at 4:57am in foggy conditions with its volunteer crew, after a Pan Pan call from a yacht drifting with no fuel and low on battery power just over 1 mile North East of Peterhead.
Arriving on the scene, the volunteer crew communicated with the yacht and secured a tow line for the short run back to Peterhead Harbour.
On arrival in Peterhead, the UK Coastguard rescue team were on site to assist in mooring the yacht alongside the harbour wall for 6:30am.
Duty Coxswain David Weir added: 'Despite testing conditions, due to significantly reduced visibility, we were able to locate the yacht quickly, and the crew were able to establish a towline.
'It's an unsettling feeling when pagers go off, facing thick fog. However, you have to trust your training and equipment.
'The Tamar lifeboat is equipped to deal with these situations, and the crew, due to their regular training, can put this to use.'
