Aberdeen RNLI volunteers swap yellow wellies for walking shoes
Volunteer crew at Aberdeen RNLI lifeboat station are taking part in this years’ Kiltwalk in June with friends and family to raise vital donations for the local station.
Stephen Brown, volunteer inshore lifeboat (ILB) helm and all weather lifeboat (ALB) mechanic, and fulltime Decommissioning Team Lead at Canadian Natural Resources Limited (CNRL), rallied the crew to take part in the 17.8 mile charity walk on June 4 2023.
Stephen said: “The RNLI receives no government funding, instead we rely on support and donations from the public to fund the life saving work that we do. We leave our families and loved ones behind every time the pager sounds, but this time we wanted to do something with them to raise money. Let’s hope that the weather is nice, otherwise, we’ll be asking them to take part in a soggy effort to keep our service running.”
Also taking part are Aberdeen RNLI ALB Coxswain/Mechanic and ILB Helm, Cal Reed, and Aiden Hardy, who is a volunteer ILB and ALB crew member and full time Regional Business Development Manager at STATS Group.
