Borth RNLI volunteers launch to kitesurfer
Borth ILB was alerted by the RNLI beach lifeguards to a kitesurfer that appeared to be in difficulty inside of camel rock, a short distance off Borth.
With a strong north westerly wind blowing and large tides, the kiter appeared to be getting pushed towards the rocks and cliffs at the southern end of Borth.
Milford Haven Coastguard requested Borth lifeboat to launch and aid the kitesurfer who’s kite had fallen out of the sky and lines had tangled, meaning it couldn’t relaunch.
The kitesurfer managed to pack down and self rescue to a beach down wind of Borth by the time the boat had reached the location, a beach lifeguard was able to return their board to them on the shore.
Although the kite surfer didn’t need rescuing on this occasion, its always best to edge on the side of caution if someone appears to be in trouble at sea and call 999 and ask for the coastguard.
