Tasked by HM Coastguard along with Broughty Ferry RNLI just after 2.30pm, the Arbroath RNLI volunteer crew made their way quickly to the scene.

Upon arrival and with a rising tide, two of the Arbroath crew members made their way onto the rocks where the casualties were located and assisted in transferring them quickly onto the lifeboat before returning them safely to shore.

An Arbroath RNLI spokesman said, 'Our local beaches are here for everyone to enjoy, however the sea can quickly catch you out so it’s very important to make sure you are aware of tides before venturing into or around the water to help avoid getting into difficulty.'

'Thankfully on this occasion, the outcome was positive for all concerned.'
