Golf enthusiasts gather for a day on the green in aid of RNLI Invergordon

RNLI Invergordon held their Annual RNLI Texas Scramble at Invergordon Golf Course on Saturday 12 August 2023 raising vital funds for the charity that saves lives at sea.

20 golf teams comprising of 80 golfers for the 10am tee-off the day started with team registration and the fundraising volunteers ensuring the bacon rolls, teas and coffees were in constant flow.

With a 10am shotgun start, the day flowed well with the Burger Cart ensuring the golfers had a supply of the famous RNLI Burgers and drinks, however some golfers questioned their golf throughout the day but all had a good day.

On completion of 18 holes, the BBQ & Raffle was in full swing, and the 19th hole was getting busy, with Val and her bar team ensuring the liquid refreshments were in constant flow.

After the scores were checked and verified the winners of the day with a 51.9 which were the Bonar Bridge Ardgay Team 1 consisting of Robbie Kinnaird, Jock MacLeod, Arthur Templeton & Geoffrey Robinson. With Nearest pin taken by Mark Smith from the Pat Munro Team, and Longest Drive was won by Stuart Thompson from Invergordon Firefighters Team.

Overall, the day raised over £2400 for the RNLI, which will ensure the volunteer lifeboat crew at Invergordon lifeboat station who rely on donations to pay for running costs and the best training and kit available to enable saving lives at sea onboard the Shannon class lifeboat ‘Agnes AP Barr’ (RNLI 13-37) the first Launch a Memory lifeboat.

Michael MacDonald, Volunteer Lifeboat Press Officer and Volunteer Crew for Invergordon RNLI said: ‘We cannot but thank everyone who helped make this day a success and raising a great amount of money for the RNLI. This is to all the teams who took part, our amazing crew, and fundraising volunteers and to Val Rhind and her staff at Invergordon Golf Club for allowing the use of the course for the day.’

Invergordon RNLI is based at Shore Road, Invergordon IV18 0EX. The volunteers crew a Shannon Class Lifeboat ‘Agnes AP Barr’. The station was founded in 1974 and celebrates its 50th Anniversary in 2024 along with the RNLI’s 200th Anniversary.

The RNLI charity saves lives at sea. Its volunteers provide a 24-hour search and rescue service around the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland coasts. The RNLI operates 238 lifeboat stations in the UK and Ireland and more than 240 lifeguard units on beaches around the UK and Channel Islands.
