Porthdinllaen assist in rescue of missing dog.
Porthdinllaen`s all-weather lifeboat was tasked by UK Coastguard on Wednesday afternoon to reports of a dog stuck at height and a possible missing owner.
The lifeboat and its compliment of volunteer crew with Coxswain Owain Williams at the helm, launched at 12:45pm and made best speed towards the reported area of incident at Porth Orion on the Lleyn Peninsula. Arriving on scene, the lifeboat carried out a shoreline search beginning one nautical mile up tide of the dogs position in case the owner had entered the water. On scene assisting were several Cliff Rescue Teams from local Coastguard stations plus an aerial search being carried out by the Coastguard helicopter from nearby Caernarfon Airport.
After a thorough search of the local area and nothing found, the lifeboat stood by as safety cover for the cliff rescue team who had climbed down the cliffs to retrieve the dog. Meanwhile the lifeboats onboard Y Class rescue tender continued the search in the area and coves on the nearby shoreline. Information was then received to the relief of all search teams that the owner had been found safe and well. The lifeboat was stood down from its duties as soon as the dog had been recovered to safety.
Owain Williams, Porthdinllaen Lifeboat Coxswain said: 'We were glad to be able to help with the search this afternoon and provide safety cover to our colleagues as they retrieved the dog. Our thanks to three Cliff Rescue Teams on scene who did a great job in difficult terrain.'
