RNLI Moelfre Volunteers Launch to Assist Ten People and Dogs at Tidal Sandbank.

Lifeboats News Release

Wednesday 23rd August, the station volunteers launched our Inshore lifeboat (ILB) at 1:41pm after being tasked by H.M. Coastguard that ten people plus dogs were in danger of being cut off by the tide at Traeth Coch (Red Wharf Bay).

Moelfre and Penmon Coastguard rescue teams were also tasked.
When the ILB was near the location, further information was received by the Coastguard operational room that all casualties had made it safely ashore at Traeth Pentraeth.

All assets were then stood down to return to their respective stations.

Helm, Osian Roberts, said

“The concerned onlooker did the right thing in dialling 999 and asking for the Coastguard, as there have now been several similar incidents at Traeth Coch (Red Wharf) over the years. The RNLI urges visitors to the area to be alert of how quickly the tide comes into areas like Traeth Coch and Llanddona. They should be aware of tide times and take extra care at the sizeable sandy bay areas to avoid getting stranded. Children should be carefully supervised when visiting these areas. If there are any concerns for the safety of individuals, the Coastguard should be advised at once by calling 999 or 112”.

Moelfre Lifeboat volunteers attended our first callout since the devastating and untimely loss of our Coxswain, Alan Owen. The crew members are in the depths of grief but continue showing outstanding professionalism and courage. Emotions ran high, but the highly trained crew honoured Alan's legacy of service and demonstrated their everlasting commitment to saving lives at sea.
