A male visitor to the island of Rona was on a walking tour round the island of Rona. On the way back to the harbour he suffered an injury to his left leg and was in need of casualty care. The emergency services were contacted whereupon Portree lifeboat was requested to launch.

The Trent class lifeboat Windsor Runner (C.S. No 42) arrived at the Rona harbour about 4.10 pm. Lifeboat volunteer Stuart Nicolson carried out the casualty care assessment of advanced first aid. Stuart said: ‘The casualty was in a challenging position to exact onto the lifeboat stretcher’. Once the casualty was on board, the lifeboat returned to Portree slipway.

After an assessment was carried out by the awaiting ambulance paramedics, the casualty was placed into the ambulance and taken to hospital.

The lifeboat was returned to service about 5.50 and the crew stood down from this incident.
