Blackpool Piers Donate to Blackpool RNLI

On Sunday 27 August 2023 Blackpool Pier Company presented a donation to the Blackpool RNLI at the Lifeboat Station open day.

At the Blackpool RNLI Open Day, representatives of the Directors and Staff of the Blackpool Pier Company presented a cheque for £3,000 to the volunteer crews of the Lifeboat Station. Martine Hagel, General Manager of North Pier and Jamie McKenzie, General Manager of Central Pier were joined by RNLI volunteer mascot, Stormy Stan, in the presentation to two volunteer lifeboat crew.

Martine said: ‘We have been working alongside the RNLI for many years, advising them of people in the sea around the Piers, and through that witnessing the dedication, professionalism and bravery of all the crews. The Blackpool Pier Company have nothing but admiration for the service they provide any time of the day and night. This is why we at the three piers support the RNLI charity all we can.’

David Warburton, volunteer Lifeboat Operations Manager at Blackpool RNLI said: ‘We cannot thank the Blackpool Pier Company enough for their generous donation, that will be utilised on the RNLI lifeboat service locally. The three piers are a dominant feature in all our responses, and it is good to know we will continue to work together to keep Blackpool safe.’

The RNLI charity saves lives at sea. Its volunteers provide a 24-hour search and rescue service around the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland coasts. The RNLI operates 238 lifeboat stations in the UK and Ireland and more than 240 lifeguard units on beaches around the UK and Channel Islands. The RNLI is independent of Coastguard and government and depends on voluntary donations and legacies to maintain its rescue service. Since the RNLI was founded in 1824, its lifeboat crews and lifeguards have saved over 142,700 lives.
