Presentation of the cheque
The Blackpool Boat Angling Club held an open cod fishing match on the 3 December and launched the boats from Squires Gate. A total of eight boats launched with 2-3 crew on each vessel. Prizes were awarded in various categories, and the proceeds from the entry fees were donated to Blackpool RNLI on 20 December 2023.

Neil from the Boat Angling club said:

'We finally managed to get afloat to fish the open cod match. There were eight boats that entered the match in freezing conditions and thanks to those entries we raised £250 for the RNLI so well done to all involved.

'The match was for the heaviest cod and there was a pool for heaviest whiting. Unfortunately there wasn’t a cod caught so the prizes were awarded to the boats with the heaviest whiting.'

Ian Butter, RNLI Duty Launching Authority said: 'The crew at Blackpool are very grateful to the organisers of the competition, and we hope everyone had a good day's fishing.

'On average, RNLI lifeboats launch over 100 times during the Christmas period* every year. Our volunteer crews are always ready on standby should the call for help arise. These rescues, and others all year round, are only made possible thanks to kind and generous donations, like this one from the Blackpool Boat Angling Club.'
