Early morning multiagency response for crew of Plymouth RNLI

Lifeboats News Release

Plymouth RNLI volunteers launched the charity's Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat Annabel E Jones on service at 12:23am to reports of cries for help being heard from rocks on Plymouth Hoe foreshore.

As the volunteer crew arrived on scene they were guided into the area by Devon and Cornwall Police officers. A casualty care trained crew member was put ashore to assess and assist the casualty whilst awaiting other agencies arrival to the scene.

Due to the location of the casualty Paramedics from South West Ambulance Trust and members of the Plymouth Coastguard Rescue Team were transported to the location on the inshore lifeboat by our volunteer crew.

Once the casualty was stabilised it was decided the best course of action would be to extract by sea and transfer the casualty and paramedics to a waiting ambulance at Commercial Wharf on Plymouth’s Barbican.

The inshore lifeboat was washed down and ready for service 1:50am.

If you see someone in trouble at the coast, call 999 or 112 and ask for the coastguard.

Always tell someone where you are going and what time you plan to be back.

Swim at a lifeguarded beach, between the red and yellow flags.

Carry a means of calling for help and keep it on you at all times in a waterproof pouch with a fully charged battery.

Wear a lifejacket or buoyancy aid, know how to float to help keep yourself safe in an emergency in the water.
