St Bees Tractor Trundle raises funds for the RNLI
A large variety of tractors and vintage vehicles of all shapes and sizes gathered in St Bees Beachfront Car Park for the annual trundle around the local villages and farms.
There was a great turnout for this year’s annual Boxing Day Tractor Trundle (26 December) organised by the West Cumbria Vintage Club, not only from the participants, but from the many visitors who came along to see the colourful array of vehicles. Even Stormy Stan joined in the fun and climbed aboard his favourite tractors.
St Bees RNLI volunteers drove the RNLI tractor and lifeboat for the crowds and were on hand to answer questions about the specialist tractor’s unique abilities.
Volunteer crew then handed out tea, coffee and bacon sandwiches to the cold and wind-swept club members and visitors. The generous donations from the welcome refreshments raised a further £460. Dick Beddows St Bees RNLI Lifeboat Operations Manager said: ‘We’re delighted at another successful turn out for the annual Tractor Trundle and we’re very grateful to the organisers West Cumbria Vintage Club and all of the generous donations we received.
‘Every penny and pound raised will go towards helping to train our volunteer crews and fund our lifesaving equipment – just like the tractor and lifeboat that were part of today’s event.
‘Without these kind donations we couldn’t continue to save lives at sea.’
