Sir Geoffrey Cox Forges Links With Clovelly Lifeboat Station
On Friday 30th June volunteers at Clovelly RNLI were delighted to welcome Sir Geoffrey Cox, MP for Torridge and West Devon, to their station for a guided tour.
Last month volunteers at Clovelly RNLI were delighted to welcome Sir Geoffrey Cox, MP for Torridge and West Devon, to their station for a guided tour. And now, they’re looking to the future with an exciting new scheme.
During his visit, Sir Geoffrey was impressed to hear about the station’s 150-year history and experienced first-hand the commitment of the growing team of volunteers. He also learned about the community’s dedication to providing a lifesaving service, including the 10 years spent operating an independent station during the RNLI’s absence from the village.
Keen to help secure the future of this historic service, Sir Geoffrey made plans with the volunteers to establish a Friends of Clovelly Lifeboat group. Conceived as a way to support the work of the station and promote the lifesaving work of its crew, this group will share further details and their plans for the future at Clovelly’s Lifeboat Day on August 6th.
During his visit, Sir Geoffrey generously offered to become a founding member of the Friends of Clovelly Lifeboat, ensuring that the venture will enjoy plenty of publicity and attract the attention of potential supporters across the county and beyond.
