RNLI Burnham-on-Crouch assist yacht with engine problems
On 7 July both the Atlantic and D class lifeboats were launched and proceeded to scene.
The casualty vessel, a 30’ yacht with a lone sailor and her dog onboard, had suffered engine issues in the area of the Black Deep whilst en route to Ramsgate. As the casualty hailed from Burnham she advised the Coastguard that her yacht had engine issues and was returning by sail to Burnham.
The casualty continued to check in with the Coastguard until communications were lost at the last known position by the Buxeys.
The Atlantic Class Lifeboat Tony and Robert Britt was tasked to make way to the last known position and commence a search, whilst the D class was tasked with searching Burnham Yacht Harbour and then Essex Marina. Other RNLI crew also assisted by walking the pontoons at Burnham Yacht Harbour.
The RNLI volunteers on the Atlantic class lifeboat Tony and Robert Britt located the casualty vessel making way under sail within the moorings and safely escorted the casualty towards Burnham marina.
As both lifeboats were afloat, and after a full assessment of the situation, the D class was utilised to tow the vessel the final distance into Burnham marina.
