Multi agency training on the Camel estuary a big success
Working with other agency partners to improve knowledge and skill sets is a real benefit to all involved.
Rock volunteer lifeboat crew and their inshore D Class lifeboat launched on a multi agency exercise taking place around Padstow harbour.
Working alongside Padstow all weather lifeboat, HM Coastguard, Padstow Harbour authorities, Devon and Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service and South Western Ambulance Service, the crew attended a scenario where a large shipping vessel had caught fire, there were a number of casualties reported to have escaped overboard and were still in the water.
Rock RNLI's volunteer crew conducted a shore line search for the casualties and successfully located the missing people, bringing them to safety and handing them to the relevant agencies on shore.
This was a great opportunity to discuss standard operating procedures with the other agencies present and practice using the lifting equipment located along the outer harbour wall to extract casualties from our boat Rusper II.
The exercise was seen as a great success and invaluable to the ongoing training programme our volunteer crew need to do to remain operationally competent. It goes without saying none of these training sessions would be possible without the kind donations from the public enabling the charity to continue to save lives at sea.
