Clovelly RNLI gears up to celebrate Lifeboat Weekend
Both visitors and locals alike are being invited to the stunning fishing village of Clovelly to celebrate this year’s Lifeboat Weekend on the 5 and 6 August
There has been a lifeboat station in Clovelly for more than 150 years, and the RNLI still forms the backbone of this tight-knit community. This August, the crew and volunteers will be celebrating their annual lifeboat weekend, with live music, family activities, lifeboat displays and more.
The fun will kick off at 10am on Saturday August 5, with a sponsored swim from Bucks Mills to Clovelly. The first swimmers are expected to begin returning around 11am.
Later, at 2.30pm, there will be a talk in the Red Lion restaurant from the Clovelly Archive and History Society. Covering the history of the Clovelly lifeboat, it will feature some fascinating photographs from the archives.
Things will be taken up a notch on August 6, with fun and games in the harbour starting from 11am. There will be a live tango workshop, lifeboat display, family activities and games, and live music from 1pm onwards. The day will finish with a pub quiz at the New Inn at 7pm.
The Red Lion, which will donate a share of profits on beer and cider sales to the RNLI, will be open serving food and drink on both days, and there will also be a BBQ on the Sunday - please bring cash. Entrance fee to the village includes a donation to the RNLI.
After a few quiet years due to the coronavirus pandemic, Clovelly’s lifeboat crew are excited to welcome friends old and new back to the village to celebrate their long relationship with the RNLI.
