Port Isaac RNLI search for casualties as empty vessel seen floating offshore

Port Isaac RNLI are calling for people to label small watercraft with contact details after a four hour search to reports of an empty rowing boat with two oars attached.

Volunteer crew responded and launched the inshore lifeboat (ILB). Once on scene the crew had difficulty locating the tender and the original informant had lost sight of it. Search resources were increased to Boscastle Coastguard Team and the all weather lifeboat at Padstow RNLI.

After a long search the rowing boat was located and deemed to have been in the water sometime and was brought to shore. The ILB returned to station at 16:00hrs and was readied for service.

Richard Hambly, Launching Authority for Port Isaac RNLI said "Approximately one third of all emergency call outs to canoes, kayaks, small boats and paddleboards are to those that appear abandoned or have come adrift. Yet the Paddler is perfectly safe. Please consider labelling boards and small boats with your contact details so that your safety can be confirmed."
