Busy week for Peterhead RNLI as they celebrate Scottish Week
Peterhead RNLI celebrated a busy Scottish Week with over 900 people attending lifeboat tours and an award win for the volunteer crew.
The 61st Peterhead Scottish week began on Friday 14 July with an award win for the volunteer crew at Peterhead RNLI who won the Blue Light Hero of the Year award at the Best of Buchan Awards. Five volunteers attended the awards dinner and were delighted to be awarded.
Volunteer Coxswain, Patrick Davidson, accepted the award on behalf of the whole lifeboat team at Peterhead RNLI. He said: ‘I would like to profoundly thank each and every one of you who voted for us and the Scottish week committee for organising such a great event. It truly came as a total shock to be announced the winners, everyone who was nominated were all worthy winners.
‘I would also like to thank the RNLI fundraisers, wives and partners as without their continued support, and the support of each and every person that donates to the charity through donations there would be no lifeboat to carry out rescues and save lives at sea.’
As part of Scottish week in Peterhead, the RNLI held open days on Monday 17 through till Friday 21 July, and the station was busy hosting tours of the current lifeboat, The Misses Robertson of Kintail, and the retired lifeboat, Douglas Currie. Peterhead RNLI hosted an incredible 951 people on their lifeboat tours throughout the week.
The Friday night was the much anticipated Airshow, where the Peterhead RNLI lifeboat, The Misses Robertson of Kintail, and the retired lifeboat, Douglas Currie, were accompanied by the lifeboat, Willie and May Gall, from Fraserburgh RNLI and the lifeboat, Bon Accord, from Aberdeen RNLI.
All 4 boats sailed out of the port and stood by in Sandford Bay. The Airshow featured a Lancaster, Vulcan Jet, the Red Arrows and the RAF Falcons Parachute Team.
On the final day of Scottish Week, the team had a stall at the Blue Light event held at the Peterhead Fire Station.
