RNLI Burnham-on-Crouch tasked to assist sailing boat with engine failure
RNLI Burnham-on-Crouch volunteer crew received their latest tasking from HM Coastguard at 7.33pm on Saturday 29 July, 2023 to assist a 27' sailing boat with three people on board.
Tony and Robert Britt, the Atlantic Class lifeboat was launched and proceeded to scene.
The casualty had put out a Pan Pan due to engine failure, then a subsequent headsail failure when they were attempting to sail back into the River Crouch.
Originally they had been making way from Essex Marina to the Scilly Isles, but turned around when they had engine failure off Ramsgate.
RNLI Burnham-on-Crouch located the casualty vessel at anchor near the Outer Crouch buoys. Following a full assessment, the RNLI Helm from Burnham-on-Crouch made the decision that the best course of action was to take the casualty under tow back into Essex Marina where they arrived safely at around 10.20pm.
