Busy Week for Kirkcudbright RNLI
Alongside long service awards, the volunteer crew at Kirkcudbright has been kept busy with a number of shouts and training exercises.
It started on Wednesday 24 May with a shout around lunchtime to assist a fishing vessel in difficulty. Kirkcudbright RNLI assisted Workington RNLI to bring the fishing vessel back to safety in Mayport, with both crews working efficiently together.
Then on Saturday 27 May, the crew room was readied for the South West Seafish Training Association to hold one of their regular training courses – this time, a VHF radio course.
A spokesperson for Kirkcudbright RNLI says: ‘We’re keen to support all sea safety, including those who make their livelihood from the sea. A lot of the work of our volunteers is spent providing help and assistance to make the water a safer place for all. We also run water safety presentations at the local primary school.’
The volunteer crew were called out on another shout. This time to a pleasure yacht with engine problems, and a very cute dog. The casualty vessel was located near Little Ross island and safely escorted back to Kirkcudbright Harbour.
The Sunday saw Kippford RNLI inshore lifeboat visit Kirkcudbright for a training exercise, featuring a joint co-operation.
