Dover RNLI to Move to New Lifeboat Station in December 2023
As part of Port of Dover's Western Docks redevelopment, the new station will be built at the end of the new Marina Curve and the new location offers both unique public access as well as a speedy exit for Dover's Severn class all-weather lifeboat.
The new station will be completed at the tail end of December 2023 and will replace the existing station on Crosswall Quay which was built in 2000. Designed by Studio 4 architects and built by Kent-based Walker Construction Ltd, the sustainable and environmentally friendly built Glulam timber-framed station will incorporate the latest in ground source heating and PV panelling.
According to outgoing Coxswain, Jon Miell:
'The build of a new station at Dover epitomises the importance of the Dover RNLI crew in helping safeguard shipping in the busiest shipping lane in the world. This state-of-the-art station will ensure that we have the shore facilities capable to support the lifesaving work of our all-weather lifeboat
The new facilities will include a larger shop and public engagement space, a briefing room, larger and improved changing facilities, crew room and offices.
The new station will ensure that Dover RNLI have the facilities to support lifesaving work in the Channel for the coming decades.
